(KETK) — Back in December we told you about a special woman, Mary Dowell, who crochets Christmas stockings for the newborn babies at Mother Francis Hospital.
Well, she and other volunteers are back at it.
It's almost a dying art form, crocheting or knitting.
Not many people still do it, but for Mary Dowell and other hospital volunteers who still have the knowledge and talent to create a homemade gift, they use their talents to give back.
The hospital volunteers crotchet antique Christmas stockings for the babies born in December to take home and now they’ve created blankets in sweet pastel colors for those born Easter weekend.
Mother Francis Lactation Consultant, Jackie Stiernagle, says "They're a lovely gift that's handmade for our patients. It's very different to get something that's handmade, I think, with love, than it is to buy something for them and so it's just a very nice gift for them to have. It's made by the same volunteers that do our Christmas stockings."
Later this week, the hospital nurses will present those babies and their families with a blanket and I'm told those born on the Fourth of July will also receive a homemade item.
